6 women among 24 arrested on sedition charges in Sirsa

Sirsa, August 28: Twenty-four people, including six women, have been arrested for sedition and other heinous charges while 15 others have been held for breach of prohibitory orders in Sirsa after a verdict against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for rape of sadhvis.

Those arrested for sedition include three young women in their early twenties from Fatehabad town–Garima and Neha from Nehar Colony and Parul from the DSP road of Fatehabad. The police have identified three other women as Sheena from Hansi, Amarjeet Kaur from Shah Satnam Singh Nagar, Sirsa, and Gurjeet Kaur from Sukhnagar Colony of Sirsa.

The police said these six women were nabbed by the security agencies after violence on August 25 from Kirti Nagar near the barricades of the security agencies. They are said to be from the the mob of Dera followers who torched a milk plant of Vita and a power substation.

These six women and 18 men have been arrested for sedition, rioting, attempt to murder, setting public property on fire and obstructing public servant from performance of duty. Among the 15 people arrested for violation of prohibitory orders include two cops of Punjab Police who have been booked under the Arms Act too, since they were carrying an AK-47 rifle and revolvers.
