Wanted gangster Sukhwant Singh held by Punjab police in Khanna

Khanna, May 1: Gangster Sukhwant Singh Narula, who was wanted in a number of criminal cases, has been arrested by the Khanna police. A pistol and three live cartridges have been recovered from him.The accused was among those behind the Rs 1.33 crore heist, in which a cash van was looted near Banur in May 2017.

He was also involved in freeing of a gangster from police custody in Nabha. In a press conference, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said a police team, led by the Khanna CIA in-charge and the Sadar Khanna SHO, had laid a naka near Alour village on Sunday night.

The team noticed a youth running away on seeing them. The cops nabbed him and recovered a .32-bore pistol and three live cartridges from him.

The arrested youth was identified as Sukhwant Singh Narula of Kotkapura in Faridkot district, a gangster wanted in several attempt to murder and arms cases.

Narula had links with gangsters Tirath Singh Dhilwan, Jaipal, Vicky Gounder and Prema Lahoria and had committed crimes along with them at several places in the state.

The Khanna police have now registered a case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against Narula. He was presented in court on Monday, which sent him to two-day police custody.
