Tunnel found beneath Bhakra canal main line, case registered

Date:

Sangrur, July 2: Unidentified persons dug up a tunnel beneath the Bhakra Main Line (BML) near Harigarh Gehla village reportedly in a bid to cause a breach in its embankment. However, some farmers noticed it and informed the police on Sunday.

A police team, led by Khanauri SHO Pritpal Singh and Moonak DSP Ajay Pal Singh, reached the spot and called BML and Irrigation Department officials. They found that the tunnel was 2.5 ft wide, 8 ft deep and 13 ft towards the bed of the BML.

“It seems that an attempt to cause a breach in the embankment has been made. We have filled up the tunnel with sand with the help of the Irrigation Department. A case has been registered against unidentified persons,” the DSP said.
