Saraj killed Hindu leader at gangsters’ behest: Police

Date:

Jalandhar, March 13: Behind bars in over two dozen criminal cases, Amritsar-based gangsters Bobby Malhotra and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria had been using sharpshooter Saraj Sandhu for various criminal activities outside for nearly two years.

Sandhu’s interrogation after his arrest for the targeted killing of Hindu leader Vipan Sharma has revealed that it was on their behest that Sharma was killed.“We have brought Bobby Malhotra on production warrant from Faridkot jail and got his remand for five days,” said Harkamalpreet S Khakh, AIG, Organised Crime Control Unit, Jalandhar.

The policemen interrogating Sandhu said that he had revealed that Bobby was like his godfather. “Sandhu, who had also been college president earlier, had entered into fights and gang wars. Hailing from Tarn Taran, he had run away from his home four years back after his father’s death.

It was then that Bobby gave him shelter. In return, Bobby started exploiting Sandhu in his criminal rackets. Four of the five murders that Sandhu committed were at Bobby’s behest.”As Bobby and Jaggu have been working together, Sandhu started working on the directions of either of the two.

The duo used Facebook and other means to send across messages to Saraj Sandhu for contacting bookies, drug dealers etc and settling their scores outside from the jails they are lodged in. Jaggu is lodged in Hoshiapur jail and the police intend to bring him too in the case. Khakh said that the remand of Bobby would reveal more details of their operations from jail.
