SAD moves Assembly resolution against renaming Dyal Singh Evening College

Date:

Chandigarh, November 28, 2017: Pressing upon the centre government to stop the renaming of Dyal Singh Evening College in New Delhi, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday presented a resolution in the assembly, asking all political parties to come forward and pass it unanimously before sending it to the central government.

The resolution presented by the SAD states that the Dyal Singh Evening College was established in Delhi after the partition. It had been recognized by Delhi University in 1978. But now the Governing Committee of the College has decided to rename it as Vande Matram Mahavidyala. This draconian decision has sent a wrong message to all who have ever been concerned with the legacy of Dyal Singh Majithia, especially a feeling of anger and discontent is prevailing among the Sikhs.

It further added that a big library was established in Lahore (Pakistan) by Sardar Dyal Singh Trust in 1898 and also a college named after S. Dyal Singh was established in Lahore in 1910. Since that these both institutions have been running smoothly without any trouble in that country.

It added that the governing committee of college took an arbitrary decision of renaming the college. It asked the centre government to step in to save the legacy of S. Dyal Singh

Majithia and issue appropriate directions to the Committee for the same
