According to Ruby Sahota, MP for Brampton North, all the jobs that were lost due to the pandemic have now been restored.

“Canadians have recovered 100 per cent of the jobs lost during the pandemic,” Sahota said during Mayor Patrick Brown’s weekly press conference on Wednesday (October 27). “In comparison, the U.S. has only seen a return of 78 per cent of jobs that were lost.”

The return of these jobs has been attributed to high vaccination rates across the country—83 per cent of eligible Canadians have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Further, two new programs are being introduced to assist businesses—the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program, which will provide wage and rent subsidies to hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, and restaurants; and the Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program, which will provide wage and rent subsidies to other businesses that have faced deep losses.

The government is also introducing the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit, to provide income support for those who may be unable to work if another lockdown occurs.

Moreover, the Recovery Care-Giving Benefit, and the Recovery Sickness Benefit are both being extended by a maximum duration of two weeks each.
