Punjab to encourage women to set up commercial dairy farms: Kuldeep Dhaliwal

CHANDIGARH/SAS Nagar, June 6: Punjab Animal Husbandry and Dairy development department would set up small commercial dairy farms and special focus would be on to involve women in the dairy business. Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal during a review meeting with the officials of the Dairy Development Department at Livestock Complex, Mohali today gave directions to carry out a special campaign to motivate household women to set up small commercial dairy farms.

Kuldeep Dhaliwal said that generally in Punjab the household women take care of milching animals, therefore on top most priority a special scheme to set up small dairy farms for women would be launched by the Animal husbandry and Dairy development department. He said that the department would come up with a unique scheme for the women to set up small commercial dairy farms. He said that under this scheme the state government would provide financial aid to the women milk producers for the purchase of 2 to 5 animals which would enable the women of the state to become self-reliant.

He further said that apart from this financial assistance would also be given to the women milk producers on livestock insurance and also provide financial assistance under MGNREGA for setting up temporary sheds.

The Minister disclosed that this scheme would be implemented at the block level in which 300 units would be set up in each block. He also directed the officials to implement this scheme by the end of June. Kuldeep Dhaliwal also asked the officials to ensure that benefits of various schemes of the department must reach the real beneficiaries.

Prominent present in the meeting included Special Chief Secretary VK Janjua, Director Dairy Kuldeep Singh, Deputy Director Kashmir Singh and other officials of the department.
