Capt Amarinder suggests NIA to probe RSS leader’s murder, Centre deliberating

Date:

New Delhi, November 3: The anti-terror National Investigation Agency (NIA) is all set to take over the probe into the recent murder of a RSS functionary in Ludhiana as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is examining a recommendation of the Punjab Government in this regard.

Revealing this, a senior MHA official said, “We have received a detailed report on the recent murders of people belonging to Hindu outfits in Punjab from the state government. In the report, the state government has also recommended handing over the probe into one of the murder cases to NIA.”

“The ministry is currently examining the report and is most likely to hand over the case to NIA,” the official said, adding that once the agency starts its investigation into the assigned cases, it may lead to linkages with several other such incidents. The other case may also come in the ambit of NIA probe at a later stage.

Ludhiana-based RSS leader Ravinder Gosain was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in the city on October 16. On October 30, president of the Amritsar unit of Hindu Sangharsh Sena Vipin Sharma was shot dead by two unidentified persons.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has given the security forces a free hand to tackle any threat to the state’s peace and harmony. Addressing a high-level meeting on Thursday evening to review law and order, he said, “No violation of the law would be tolerated.” He said indications of reviving terrorism had been traced to many countries, besides Pakistan. Countries on the state police radar include Germany, UAE, Belgium, South Africa, Portugal and Saudi Arabia. TNS
