Peel Police issues Canada-wide warrant against Punjabi man accused of death by accident

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued by the Peel police against 25-year-old Kamaljit Singh of Punjabi origin.

The accident took place on July 3, 2021 around 5 am leaving a 59-year-old man dead and two others injured. According to police, a fatal collision occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Sandalwood Parkway.

The force of the collision left an engine block from one vehicle 50 to 100 metres south of the intersection.

One of those passengers, a 25-year-old Brampton man, had to be transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries. The other passenger, a 23-year-old man from Guelph, sustained less serious injuries and was treated at the scene.

A short time after the collision, police located the driver in the area and took him into custody on suspicion of impaired driving. Police said Singh was released, but failed to comply with his release conditions.

Police charged him with the following offences:

  • Impaired operation causing death
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in death
  • Operation while impaired, causing bodily harm
  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm

Impaired operation causing death carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in Canada.
