Coordination needed between each wing & STF of Punjab Police: DGP Suresh Arora

Chandigarh, October 9: With an objective of effecting synergy between various wings of Punjab Police especially its field units and STF, Suresh Arora, Director General of Police, Punjab and Mohammad Mustafa, Director General of Police, Special Task Force (Against Drugs) held a meeting with G.O’s, SHO’s of Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana and districts of Khanna, Ludhiana (Rural) and Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. This meeting has been organized to take stock of various issues relating to supply and demand reduction of drugs in the area. He emphasized that now STF being part of Director General of Police, Punjab and hence there is an imperative need to have effect coordination between various units of Punjab Police for taking effective action against smugglers of drugs. He further told the police officials that this synergy will have multiplier effect as far as drive against drugs is concerned.

He told officers that to effective action be taken against smugglers under preventive detention under Prevention of Illicit Trafficking (PIT NDPS), Act, 1988 against incorrigible and habitual smugglers of drugs. This is basically detaining a person for a year under provisions of this Act.He asked officers to carry out effective & systematic financial investigations in illegally acquired properties by smugglers and same be got seized and forfeited from Competent Authority for NDPS Act, Government of India.

This will not only cripple financial resources of smugglers, which normally is used by these smugglers to use these financial resources for further carrying out their illegal activities of drug smuggling.He further told officers to launch a special campaign immediately against proclaimed offenders and absconders in cases registered under the provisions of NDPS Act.

Similarly, he asked all officers to ensure that parole jumpers especially those relating to drug cases be arrested and sent to jails.He asked officers to launch special campaign for engagement of youth especially students with specific programmes to educate them about ill effects of drugs.

He further asked them to intensity various activities under ‘DAPO’ and ‘Buddy’ programmes of Govt. of Punjab. In this regard, resources of various wings of Punjab Police like STF, Saanjh, district police etc. need to be used for launching special educational programmes in both rural & urban areas. Mr. Arora also asked officers to have effective liaison with SP/Jails and other jail authorities for putting an end to smuggling of drugs to jails. He again asked, all officers to be vigilant against activities of gangsters and asked them to take immediate legal action against them.

DGP, STF Mohammad Mustafa told officers that STF now being part of office of Director General of Police will work in close coordination with district SSP’s and CP’s for eradication of this problem from landscape of Punjab. He would be closely monitoring the action taken by district police at police station level.

SSP Khanna Dhruv Dhaya, made a presentation explaining emerging nexus developing among Nigerian, gangsters and local suppliers. He was appreciated by Director General of Police, Punjab for recovery of 8 kgs & 500 gms of heroin during the short span of 2 ½ months.Ishwar Singh, IPS, Addl. Director General of Police, Law & Order and Parmod Ban, IPS, IGP/STF was also present in this meeting.
