The girl’s father, Ashok Mukhia, and mother Rinku Devi had left for their home state two days ago to visit family members. She was left behind in the house of Jinesh Garg, a leading arhtiya (commission agent) and pesticide/fertiliser dealer of Dharamkot subdivision.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the girl had been working in Garg’s house for the past more than two years. She was employed at the age of 11 in violation of child labour laws.
