Ludhiana businessman ‘shoots’ self, family; daughter battling for life

Date:

Ludhiana, June 8: In a shocking incident, an iron merchant and Ludhiana businessman, Jagmeet Pal Khurana, his wife, 18-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter were shot at their residence in Model Town locality late Wednesday night.

While preliminary investigations revealed that it was a case of the merchant shooting his family before killing self with a revolver, police said they are exploring all other angles and will register an FIR. The businessman’s daughter Bishman is the lone survivor and is battling for life at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), while the remaining 3 family members died of bullet injuries.

The family resides on the first floor of the house in Model Town. The incident came to light Thursday morning when the bodies of Jagmeet’s wife Jasmit Kaur, son Jasandeep were found in one room on the first floor, while the merchant’s body was found in the adjoining room with the revolver.

The daughter was found lying in a pool of blood outside the rooms.

Jagmeet was reportedly suffering losses in business and was mentally disturbed about it. His mother Mohinder Kaur told the police that her son confided in her only last night when he said he is upset over his losses at work.

Police said the entire family had applied for permanent residency in Canada and were to migrate soon.

“As the door was locked from inside, it appears that the businessman shot himself after shooting his wife and two children. Only the daughter has survived. However we are registering an FIR and will be investigating all other angles as well,” said commissioner of police RN Dhoke.
