INLD MLAs attend Haryana Vidhan Sabha with gagged mouths

Date:

Chandigarh, October 25: INLD MLAs arrived in the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday with their mouths covered with a gag.

MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Abhay Singh Chautala arrived in the House five minutes after the proceedings began. But all MLAs, including Abhay Singh Chautala, had their mouths covered with gags. Question Hour was in progress when the INLD MLAs arrived.

Though no reason for the act was clarified so far, it seemed to be a protest against the way Chautala was stopped from intervening during a debate by the Speaker. SAD MLA Balkar Singh tried to speak twice, but he was stopped by the Speaker saying Question Hour was in progress. Singh had said that what happened on Tuesday was uncalled for when he was told by the Speaker to sit down.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister requested the INLD MLAs to remove the gags. At the same time, he as well as Anil Vij mocked the INLD MLAs’ action.

Congress leaders Geeta Bhukkal, Kiran Chaudhry and others alleged that the voice of Opposition was being gagged. And instead of requesting INLD MLAs to remove their gags, the ruling party leaders were mocking them, they alleged.

Chief Minister ML Khattar appealed to INLD MLAs to remove gags. The Leader of Opposition clarified his party’s position, saying he was stopped by the Speaker from speaking on Tuesday.
