Shimla, July 18: A flashflood triggered by torrential rains wreaked havoc in Bran village, around 5km from a tourist resort in Manali in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Six vehicles were buried under the debris due to floods. Heavy flow of the debris also blocked the Kullu- Manali National Highway causing traffic jam. A team of the public works department (PWD) has been working to open the highway for traffic since morning.

Manali sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Raman Gharsanghi said,“Flashfloods occurred in Bran Nullah in Manali at around 3 am in the morning and swept away vehicles parked on the roadside.”

He added that public property worth crores was also damaged due to the floods.

He said,“At least seven vehicles including six cars and a motorbike were also washed away in the flood.”

Apart from this two roads, six footbridges, a water supply line, irrigational channel and a watermill was also damaged.

“No loss of life has been reported so far,” the SDM said.
