After taking a round of the stalls, the Governor urged farmers of other districts to follow Gurdaspur’s model.

He also appreciated the efforts of renowned horticulturist Dilbagh Singh Lally Cheema in establishing a WhatsApp group named ‘Young Innovative Farmers’ Group’.
“More such groups should be created as they lead to an exchange of ideas among farmers which, in turn, increases their knowledge. The dangers of paddy stubble burning and the measures needed to eradicate it should be openly discussed on social media platforms,” he said.

The Governor, who was accompanied by PAU Vice Chancellor Baldev Singh Dhillon and PAU Regional Station Director RS Singh, lauded the efforts of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vipul Ujwal in encouraging residents to come forward to improve the infrastructure in elementary schools.

“When Ujwal was the DC of Hoshiarpur, he managed to collect Rs 84 lakh from residents. This money was used to buy chairs, desks, books and other infrastructure for schools. Now that he is the Gurdaspur DC, I urge him to continue with the initiative so that children can study in better conditions,” the Governor added.

He appreciated the Kisan Melas organised by the PAU and stressed the need to manage stubble burning by adopting ‘Super SMS’, ‘Cutter’ and ‘Happy Seeder’ technologies developed by the university.
