Established in 2014 by the Khalsa Parchar Mission with just six students from nearby slums, Khalsa Mission Public School, in Bharat Nagar Colony of Patiala, presently has strength of 120 students. Out of the 120 students, who are enrolled for free education, 40 are girls.

With five qualified teachers and a principal, along with other staff members, the school is giving education on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern — very much like other private schools in the city.

Bhai Ravinder Singh Raj, founder of the school, said: “The school is currently up to Class II, but we are upgrading it by one class every year. Our aim is to provide education up to Class XII. Our focus is to provide kids with free education.”

Talking about this noble cause, Bhai Ravinder Singh said: “We wanted to make a difference and there was no better way than to give free education to the underprivileged kids. In fact, I myself, have witnessed the trauma of not being able to pay the school fee.”

Teachers at the school feel proud to be a part of this cause. “Their enthusiasm helps these children learn quickly,” said Harpreet Singh, principal.

“The school is run on donations made by people and I appeal everyone to join us,” said the founder.
