Drinking water to be provided to passengers in Volvo buses of Punjab govt

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 23: The Punjab Government has decided to provide bottles of drinking water to passengers travelling in Volvo buses of State Transport.

The passengers gave enthusiastic response to Volvo buses departing from Punjab towards IGI Airport with a receipt of Rs. 100 per kilometer by the Volvo buses on this route.

Disclosing this here today, the Transport Minister Laljeet Singh Bhullar said that concerted efforts were being made to bring Punjab Roadways and other state transport buses on track under the able-leadership of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He said directions had already been issued to implement the time-table of state transport buses in letter and spirit. No change and interference in the execution of time-table will be tolerated, said Bhullar adding that bus services were being made more comfortable with needful changes. He said that the action was initiated against the illegal bus services and zero tolerance would also be adopted against such illegal buses.

The Transport Minister also directed the General Managers of Punjab Roadways and Regional Transport Authorities to take all necessary actions against the illegal buses plying on the roads so that this practice could be wiped out. He asked to intensify checking drive in tandem with other authorities. He also directed them to initiate step towards containing the incidents of pilferage of diesel from buses and a pilot project in this direction should be unveiled. The V.T.S. System should also be put in place within the stipulated timeframe so as to keep a meticulous check on illegal buses on roads, said the Minister asking the authorities to ensure rotation system to provide equal opportunities to all stakeholders.

Secretary Transport Vikas Garg, Director State Transport Pardeep Sabharwal, Amandeep Kaur and Vimal Kumar Setia were also present in the meeting.
