Cycle rally route from Amritsar to Dera Baba Nanak gets govt nod

Chandigarh, October 3: The Punjab Sports Department is organizing various activities in view of the 550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev.

As part of the calendar released by the department, a cycle rally would be organized by the department from Amritsar to Dera Baba Nanak on November 3. The route of the rally was approved today by the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi in a high-level meeting held here.

The Minister while divulging the details said that the rally would commence from Guru Nanak Stadium, Amritsar and passing through Majitha Bypass and Fatehgarh Churian, would culminate at Dera Baba Nanak. The rally would cover 64.9 Km and 550 players would participate.

Halt Points would be set up at every 15 km which would be equipped with every facility and the volunteers would also be deputed for the assistance of the participating cyclists. Out of these, 100 cyclists would be from the cycling coaching centres.

Each cyclist completing the race would be given a medal and a certificate. The departmental officers, coaches, NSS volunteer and NCC cadets would ensure the success of the rally. Not only this, but light and sound arrangements as well as a giant screen apart from posters and flexes would adorn the Guru Nanak Stadium.

Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Additional Chief Secretary Sports Sanjay Kumar, Secretary PWD Hussan Lal, Deputy Commissioner Shivdular Singh Dhillon, IG A.K. Pandey, Director Health Services Dr. Avneet Kaur and ADC, Gurdaspur, Tajinder Pal Singh.
