Court puts CBSE officials on notice

Date:

Chandigarh, March 7: A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court was told that interim order passed in case of differently abled students was not being complied with, a Division Bench today put on notice Central Board of School Education (CBSE) officers. They have been asked to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them.

Making it clear that differently abled students can be asked to take examinations only in the manner they are taught, the High Court had earlier issued a slew of directions, including possibility of different question papers and methodology for evaluation for different schools.

Besides, their centre of examination will be the schools they are studying in. Directions for the 2017-18 session have also been issued for formulating a uniform pattern of imparting education to differently abled students and also for developing software for all schools to upload data mentioning special abilities.

Petitioner Jyoti Sehgal, however, told the Bench of Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice BS Walia that the interim order passed by the Bench on February 23 had not being complied with by the CBSE. The examination commenced on Monday.

But the students were still in dilemma “as to whether they should take their examination in terms of the directions issued by the court in the same school in which they are studying or they should report at the centre notified by the CBSE”. The Bench was also told that the Regional Director of the CBSE was not cooperating.
