Cong MP questions PM Narendra Modi’s silence over the “dilution” of the SC/ST Act

Date:

Jalandhar, April 2: Expressing solidarity with the Dalits and extending support to the protest call, Congress’ Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary on Sunday questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the “dilution” of the SC/ST Act and non-filing of review petition on the issue so far.

Chaudhary said while the dilution of the Act could cause a “huge chaos”, all Dalit functionaries should resign from their posts with the Union Government.Chaudhary said the bandh on Monday won’t create any law and order problem in the state and all Congress activists would be free to join it.

He said: “We are with the Dalit community on the issue. While the Congress under the Rajiv Gandhi government had brought in the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (1989), the BJP is anti-Dalit which became evident from the recent SC verdict and the government’s inaction.

While the Congress chief met the President on the issue, the BJP has remained mum so far.”
