CM review preparations for next round of job affairs, offering nearly 82000 Jobs

Tel Aviv/Chandigarh, October 27: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the Department of Employment Generation and Training to prepare aggressively for facilitating employment for youth in the next round of jobs fairs, to be held from November 12 to November 22. Nearly 82000 jobs in the private sectors would be open for aspiring youth in these fairs.

The Chief Minister was reviewing the preparations for the fairs, being held as part of the state government’s flagship programme – Ghar Ghar Rozgar – from Tel Aviv last evening. His Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar apprised him about the progress of the preparations.

The Chief Minister directed all the concerned departments to synergize their efforts to ensure increased job opportunities for youth in the state, while instructing them to scale up measures to assist youth in setting up entrepreneurial ventures. He also asked the Employment Generation and Training department to put in place an efficacious mechanism to start a 24X7 job helpline for this purpose.

In addition, the Chief Minister has directed the department to establish a foreign placement cell and to launch coaching for various government competitive exams, besides exploring the possibility of hiring a job agency to impart soft skills to youth, according to an official spokesperson.

The Chief Minister appreciated the work done by the Employment Generation and Training Department in assisting more than 4.13 lakh youth in getting jobs, arranging loans to fund their self-employed ventures. On an average, the Captain Amarinder led state government has been maintaining providing 700 jobs per day, said the spokesperson.

The Chief Minister also called for widening of the ambit of Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojana, with the launch of District Bureaus of Employment and Enterprises (DBEEs) in all the 22 districts of the state on November 23.

Commissioner-cum-Director Employment Generation and Training Rahul Tewari disclosed in Chandigarh that these Bureaus would be manned by district employment officers and dedicated counsellors, who would be available daily to the job aspirants from 10 AM to 6 PM for counselling and for applying for jobs in government, public and private sectors, besides facilitating them for arranging bank loans for self-employed ventures. These officials would also inform the youth about relevant job related websites, both in the country and abroad.

The Deputy Commissioners have also been instructed to arrange a group of 40 students, having hands-on skills and training in various fields from the nearby government and private engineering colleges and polytechnics, for employment in the district bureaus, which will function from November 1 to 22 on trial basis, before their formal inauguration on November 23.

Referring to the job portal being operated by the Employment Generation Department, Tewari said that nearly 2.25 lakh youth have been already registered so far for availing suitable jobs opportunities in government, public and private sectors. The unemployed youth would also be motivated through these bureaus to register on the portal.
