Class XII girl found hanging in Ferozepur school bathroom

Ferozepur/Hoshiarpur, Sept 20: A girl was found hanging in a bathroom of her school hostel today morning. She was a Class XII medical student of a meritorious school in the district’s Hakumat Singh Wala village.

The deceased has been identified as Phoola Devi (17). Her parents are migrant labourers from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh. They had been living in Hoshiarpur’s Birampur village for the past 15 years.

She got up around 4 am today, went to the bathroom and bolted it from inside, sources said. She reportedly hanged herself from the ventilator with her “dupatta”.When other girls found Phoola absent from the morning PT, they informed the hostel warden. During search, her body was found in the bathroom.

Phoola’s mother Satyawati alleged hostel inmates harassed her daughter by levelling baseless allegations against her.The family said a few days ago, Phoola had visited home. On her return to the hostel, inmates complained to teachers that Phoola had fled with her boyfriend, Satyawati alleged.“One of her teachers insulted my daughter. Phoola didn’t want to stay in the hostel, but we persuaded her otherwise. We had never thought that she would take the extreme step,” she said.

The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for the postmortem.Ajmer Singh, SP (Detective), said the police had filed a case under Section 174 of the IPC at Ghal Khurd police station on the basis of the statement of the deceased’s father.Sunil Kumar, registrar of the school, said the school administration would support the police in the investigation. The post of the principal has been lying vacant.
