Date:

Nawanshahr, November 28, 2021: In order to take stock of ongoing special summary revision of electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr. S. Karuna Raju visited Nawanshahr, today.

During this super checking visit, CEO Punjab examined four randomly selected forms and interacted with the Booth Level Officers of these areas.

He said that in case of deletion/shifting of voters, a proper procedure is to be adopted before proceeding ahead.

He said that keeping in mind the revision process as the most important part and basis of the forthcoming state assembly elections, each one should work fairly. During the checking, the disposal of forms was found correct.

While holding a meeting with Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, Vishesh Sarangal, Electoral Registration Officers of the Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur, CEO Dr. S Karuna Raju made it clear that nobody would be left to include as an elector, if he/she qualifies for the same.

He said that as the Election Commission of India has fixed November 30 as the deadline for the receiving of claims and objections for the ongoing Special Summary Revision Process, so we should try our best to enroll all the eligible citizens attaining the age of 18 or more as on 01.01.2022.

Stressing the need of registration of NRIs and third genders as voters, he said that as the district has a number of NRIs (having Indian Passport), so there may be emphasis on these voters.

CEO Dr S Karuna Raju asked the district officials to expedite the SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education & Electoral Participation) activities across the district, especially in those booth areas which have shown less polling than the state average, to sensitize them of the voting right.

He said that we have to surpass the last 77 percent mark and we can do this only by making aware all the voters including youth, females, senior citizens and transgenders.

Dr S Karuna Raju said that the Election Commission was fully prepared to hold the Assembly elections-2022 in Punjab.

He said that to ensure faster, smarter, transparent and timely completion of election work with ease, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced Garuda app for digital mapping of all polling stations by adding latitude and longitude by the Booth Level Officers. He said that app would help to minimize the paperwork.

Chief Electoral Officer said that to thwart the apprehension of the third wave of the COVID, special attention to be focused on making available sanitizers at booths besides providing masks and gloves to poll staff.

He said that ECI is going to introduce a postal ballot facility for the senior citizen voters of 80 years or above. Special attention would be given to the women voters at polling booths under the campaign, ‘Your Vote, Your Power, Your Pride’, he added.
