Capt Abhimanyu in-charge of BJP in Punjab

Date:

Chandigarh, December 27: Gearing up for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron brigade has appointed one of its senior leaders from the region, Capt Abhimanyu in-charge for Punjab and Chandigarh.

Currently Haryana’s Finance and Industry Minister, Capt Abhimanyu has been appointed in-charge for parliamentary polls in Punjab, which has 13 seats, and Chandigarh having just one seat.

In Punjab, BJP contests elections in alliance with the regional party — Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Out of 13 Lok Sabha seats, BJP contests on three.

At present, BJP has just one Lok Sabha MP from Hoshiarpur, Vijay Sampla, who is also the Minister if State in the Narendra Modi led Government at the Centre.

Punjab is one of the few states where Congress is in power. Capt Abhimanyu has also worked in Punjab in the past as the State affairs general secretary in-charge.

What indicates at the BJP high command’s full confidence in Capt Abhimanyu is the fact that no sub in-charge has been appointed with him. Besides, he was one of the only two leaders who have been given the charge of two states.

Capt Abhimanyu’s appointment was made by BJP national president Amit Shah on Wednesday, as the party released a list of its in-charges and sub-in-charges in 17 States and one Union Territory.
