New Delhi, July 23: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said on Sunday alliance with any party, including Aam Aadmi Party, was a call to be taken by the Congress.

“Building alliances is the prerogative of the Congress leadership and party chief, not ours. We will go wherever the party tells us to go on the matter of alliances for 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” Singh, member of extended CWC in his capacity as a siting CM, said on Sunday.

Congress in charge of Punjab Asha Kumari and state party chief Sunil Jakhar had said earlier there was no question of allying with AAP in Punjab.

Capt Amarinder batted for Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial face of the joint opposition for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the CM welcomed the appointment of Prof Raj Kumar of the BHU as the Vice-Chancellor of PU, calling it a “very good move”.

Singh however sounded open to possibilities after the former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said everyone will work with the party chief Rahul Gandhi to forge alliances to defeat BJP in next elections.

Singh endorsed the stress on broad alliances saying, “the larger the anti bjp alliance the better it will be.”

The remarks signal new openness in the party for AAP, which has so far been isolated by Congress.

All four AAP members voted for the opposition’s no confidence motion in Lok Sabha on Friday.

Singh welcomed the appointment of Prof Raj Kumar of BHU as the vice chancellor of PU Chandigarh saying it’s a very good move as “BHU is an outstanding institution”.

“It’s very good. BHU is an outstanding institution,” said Amarinder Singh adding that it was good to have eminent academicians from outside the state to head important institutions.
