Amritsar, May 23: Akal Takht constituted the Sikh Film Censor Board (SFCB) on Tuesday.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said it would be mandatory to submit the script before the SFCB before making a film, documentary, animation, play or feature based on the Sikh religion.

The SFCB has 21 members. It will be co-ordinated by deputy secretary of the Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC Simranjit Singh.

They will scrutinise every aspect of the script and submit its report to Akal Takht for the final nod.

“The decision to constitute the SFCB has been taken due to controversies over films on Sikh Gurus and distorted Sikh history. This will be applicable for any film which portrays any sequence related to Sikh Gurus, their kin and Sikh history,” said Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. The SGPC during its recent budget session had demanded representation in the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but it didn’t get any response.
