Act against those morphing Gurus’ images: HC to state

Date:

Chandigarh, October 9: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed Punjab to initiate appropriate action on complaints by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding morphing of images of the Sikh Gurus and Sikhs on social networking sites.

Disposing of the petition filed through counsel Abhilaksh Grover, Justice Gurvinder Singh Gill also directed the state to find out the culprits as expeditiously as possible.

Appearing before the Bench, Grover said morphed images on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were hurting the sentiments of the Sikhs.
He added that the SGPC had received e-mails from across the world regarding the same.

Grover said the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had written letters to the state DGP and the Amritsar Commissioner of Police in March and August, mentioning the Facebook accounts of persons who morphed images of the Gurus, but the respondents had failed to take action on the complaints.
