AAP leaders join ‘parallel’ jathedars’ stir at Bargari

Date:

Faridkot, June 2: A Panthic gathering, convened by Sikh radical leaders at Bargari village on Friday, caught the police in a difficult situation when “acting parallel jathedar” of Akal Takht Dhian Singh Mand sat on an indefinite dharna. AAP leaders Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Faridkot MP Prof Sadhu Singh and party MLAs also joined them in their protest.

Demanding justice for two Sikh protesters, who were shot dead by the police at Behbal Kalan village on October 14, 2015, and punishment to accused in sacrilege cases, Mand announced that he would continue the dharna till the justice was not delivered. Baljit Singh Daduwal, another parallel jathedar, was also present.

The congregation was called on the completion of three years of first incident of theft of a “bir” from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in Faridkot. Following this, many incidents of sacrilege were reported across the state. Meanwhile, AAP leaders accused the CM of having a tactical understanding with the Badals, which “is evident from the fact that no action has been taken in these cases even 14 months after the Congress took over the reins of the state”.

Khaira alleged that Capt Amarinder exploited religious sentiments of Sikhs to grab power. He had taken an oath at Takht Damdama Sahib under ‘Gutka Sahib’ promising to punish all those responsible for police firing and sacrilege incidents, Khaira said, adding that the people believed him and voted him to power.
