4 cops booked for framing two in drugs case

Date:

Muktsar, July 23: Four policemen, including a Sub-Inspector and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), have been booked for allegedly registering a false FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Lambi police station against two residents of Muktsar town about four years ago. All have been suspended, but are yet to be arrested.

The action has been taken after the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Kanwaljit Singh acquitted Vegeesh Kumar and Gurwinder Singh of Muktsar town after not finding them guilty in a case registered against them in November 2014. They were allegedly arrested for carrying 50 bottles of tranquiliser and 1,000 habit-forming tablets in a car.

However, the court ordered to register a case against the cops for falsely implicating these two persons and forgery.

Those booked included SI Kasmiri Lal, who was the acting SHO of the Lambi police station in November 2014, ASI Ajmer Singh and two head constables Rajvir Singh and Sukhdev Singh.

Ashok Kumar, SHO of the Sadar Muktsar police station, said, “A case has been registered against four cops under Sections 220 and 465 of the IPC for framing two local residents in a case under the NDPS Act. They have been suspended as well. We have started investigation, but they are yet to be arrested.”
