2 militants dead in J&K’s Anantnag gunfight

Srinagar, July 25: Two militanats were on Wednesday killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town.

A gunfight broke out early morning between the forces and holed up militants.

Police said acting on a special information, security forces surrounded Kotwal Mohalla in Anantnag in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces. Evacuation of civilians was started before launching assault on the hiding militants,” a police officer said.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in Anantnag district as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted at certain places around the encounter site and one policeman was injured during stone pelting. He was hit on the head with a stone. All entry points have been sealed towards the main town Anantnag.
