Two more Improvement Trusts under Vigilance scanner

Date:

Pathankot, May 30: The Amritsar Vigilance Bureau has not only booked senior officers of the Pathankot Improvement Trust (IT), but has also put Batala and Gurdaspur ITs under scanner.

Senior officials admit that after the bureau, led by SSP RK Bakshi, unearthed a fraud perpetuated by advertising agencies and Pathankot trust officials, the focus has now shifted to the Batala and Gurdaspur bodies. Investigators claim funds to the tune of crores were misappropriated by the Pathankot Trust.

In Pathankot, funds meant for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan were diverted and subsequently misappropriated.

“We have information that similar frauds are occurring in Batala and Gurdaspur ITs where officials are hand in glove with people collecting advertisements for print and electronic media. We have already started checking the records,” revealed a senior officer.

Sources say records of the Gurdaspur IT have already been scrutinised. Meanwhile, Pathankot IT accused SDO Vipin Sharma, who was arrested on Monday, was presented in the court of CJM Kapil Aggarwal. Mahajan was sent to four-day police custody. Two reporters of vernacular dailies are also involved and raids were conducted at their houses on Tuesday.
