Power tariff hiked by 9.33 per cent in Punjab

Chandigarh, October 23: The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) on Monday announced the new power tariff for Punjab. The tariff is for a period of three years.
The tariff has been increased by 9.33 per cent over the existing tariff.

Industry gets time of day rebate of Rs 1.25 per KVAh, as compared to Rs 1 earlier.
Cross subsidy levels for all categories of consumers have been kept within +/- 20 per cent, as mandated in the tariff policy.

Power tariff of Rs 5 per unit for industry to be implemented from November 1. So far, Punjab Government has consented to give the subsidy to industry but the exact subsidy is yet to be calculated.

Domestic consumer will pay 7-12 per cent additional tariff; commercial consumers will pay 8.50- 10.50 per cent additional tariff. The total power subsidy on farmers, backward classes etc, will be Rs 10970 crore.

Domestic consumer will have to pay an additional 41-80 paisa per unit; commercial consumers to pay 70-72 paise per unit more as tariff.

The tariff increase for industrial consumers is between 54-71 paise per unit — this hike will be subsidised by the government.
