Date:

Amristar, June 8: Due to Nanakshahi Calendar row, the SGPC had to cancel the pilgrimage to Pakistan to commemorate the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev.

The SGPC follows the amended version of Nanakshahi Calendar and has been commemorating the occasion on June 17.

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee, which follows the original Nanakshahi Calendar, has been observing the occasion on June 16.

It has been learnt that the Pakistan authorities did not accept the SGPC’s demand for visas between June 9 and 18.
The SGPC wanted that the jatha sent by it should visit Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore on June 17 to mark the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev.

On the other hand, Bhai Mardana Kirtan Darbar Yaadgar Society head Harpal Singh Bhullar said permission was granted to at least 100 pilgrims, registered with various organisations, to visit Pakistan between June 8 and 17.

“In Pakistan, the Gurpurb will be observed on June 16 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore. The next day, the pilgrims are bound to return,” he said.
