The direction by Justice Daya Chaudhary came on a petition filed by Dhillon through senior advocates JS Bedi and Arun Bhardwaj, along with Abhaysher Singh and Rubal Garg. Appearing before the Bench, the counsel contended that the petitioner was ready to join the investigation as required in pursuance of a notice issued under Section 160 of the CrPC. But, he was apprehending chances of his arrest during the process of joining the investigation.

The senior counsel further contended that the petitioner was ready to cooperate in the investigation, but at least an opportunity should be given to him and he may not be arrested all of a sudden during the joining of investigation.

Issuing notice of motion for September 28, Justice Chaudhary added, “Meanwhile, the respondent is directed not to adopt any coercive method during investigation.”

Raising questions on the functioning of the Central Bureau of Investigation in the matter, Ludhiana-based coloniser Ayush Bhalla had earlier moved the High Court alleging harassment by the premier investigating agency for falsely implicating Dhillon.
