Captain Amarinder’s go-ahead for Punjab start-up hub

Date:

Chandigarh, December 28: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today approved the setting up of the Punjab Start-up Hub, under which a state-of-the-art incubation centre is proposed to be established in Mohali.

The CM also okayed the constitution of a high-level committee to draft a proposal for resettlement and rehabilitation of those who would be affected during eviction from panchayati land for setting up industrial hubs. The committee will comprise Financial Commissioner (Revenue); Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayats; and Principal Secretary (Finance).
The directives were issued by the CM while chairing the maiden meeting of the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Board, which has been set up to ensure effective implementation of the new industrial policy.

Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu emphasised the need to set up special economic zones (SEZs) for sports and leather industries in Jalandhar to tap the export potential of both sectors.

During a review of the status of the hi-tech cycle valley to be set up in Ludhiana, the CM was told that the concept plan was at the final stage and 80 acres had been made available by the Dhanansu village panchayat in addition to the already procured 300 acres.

Earlier, Cabinet Minister Brahm Mohindra told the CM about the impending litigation in land acquisition under the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Rajpura under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor. It was stated that of the 1,000 acres required for setting up the IMC, the Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation (PSIEC) had identified 206 acres for the first phase.
