“It is surprising that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh makes big claims against drugs, but cannabis plants are growing easily in the tehsil complex of Sunam, which houses all government offices, including of the SDM and Tehsildar,” alleged MLA Arora while checking cannabis plants with his team.

He alleged that he had got complaints from area residents that cannabis of the complex were popular among city youngsters and even the surrounding addicts also visited the place to get their daily dose.

Some locals alleged that addicts could be seen enjoying the doses of cannabis during morning and evening times despite the presence of security staff. “Addicts can be seen many times even during daytime here. But surprisingly there is no action against them,” alleged Gurvinder Singh, another local.

When contacted, Sunam SDM Rajdeep Brar, confirmed that the matter was in his knowledge. “We keep cleaning cannabis regularly and I would immediately check and get them removed,” said Brar.
