BSF pays tributes to martyr

Abohar, March 15:  Border Security Force Commandant Rajinder Vohra, Deputy Commandant Satish Dahiya, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Poonam Singh and former MLA from Balluana Gurtej Singh Ghuriana today led the people in paying tributes to Vijay Kumar Mahar. A BSF contingent offered ceremonial salute to the martyr.

Vijay Kumar Mahar had sacrificed his life, at the age of 24 years, in an ambush by a faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland in Assam’s Kokrajhar district in 2011.

At the function organised on his seventh Balidan Diwas at the memorial in Dharampura village near here, the martyr’s statue was garlanded by the dignitaries.

They also inaugurated a memorial gate for which Ghuriana had arranged Rs 5 lakh during his tenure.The martyr’s father Krishan Lal and mother said that the memorial had been developed by villagers with the help of the BSF in the native village.

The BSF had also named a lane in its sector headquarters at Abohar after Vijay Mahar. A blood donation camp was also organised on the occasion.
