Won’t withdraw ban on truck unions, says Capt Amarinder Singh

Chandigarh, July 18: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday ruled out rollback of the government decision to ban truck unions in the state. During a media interaction after casting his vote for the Presidential election, he said the views of all stakeholders would be taken.

Allaying fears that big truck operators from other states would take over the business, he said all possible safeguards would be incorporated in the new industrial policy.

The CM said the Union Ministry of Water Resources had been requested to assess the quantum of state’s waters. He denied having discussed the SYL with the PM

Crop loan waiver
Amarinder said the government was in the process of settling the matter with banks. He pointed out that Finance Minister Manpreet Badal had said the waiver scheme would be implemented within a week. The final report on debt waiver by the expert committee was awaited.

Job extension review
The government was reviewing the provision of extension of service for two years after retirement at the age of 58 with a view to creating more jobs, said Amarinder.
