Army on standby in Punjab following red alert for floods

Chandigarh, Sept 24: Punjab government has declared red alert for floods as the incessant rain fury is continuing unabated.

Tweet the information, Raveen Thukral, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the CM would review the situation at 3 pm today with senior officers and further instructions will follow thereafter.

Meanwhile, people are advised not to panic.

The administrative machinery of all districts has been instructed to keep a constant vigil and activate Disaster Control Rooms.

The Army has been requested to be standby. Hotspots will be identified with clear evacuation and relief plans ready. The equipment to drain out flood waters is to be kept handy.

The administration of those districts which fall in in catchment areas of three rivers flowing through the state have been asked to arrange enough boats to rescue affected people.
