Akali leader arrested for snatching Rs 3 lakh from Mansa farmer

Mansa, May 25: A SAD leader and president of the Block Samiti, Bhikhi, Pargat Singh, was arrested for snatching Rs 3 lakh from a farmer on Thursday. His accomplice Amarjit Singh was also arrested. Both are residents of Khiva Khurd village.

Apart from the cash, the police also claimed to have recovered two Nihang attire and red chilli powder from the car in which they were fleeing after committing the crime.

A case has been registered at the City I police station and the duo will be produced in court on Friday.

Jag Singh, a farmer of Bhamme Kalan village, had withdrawn Rs 3 lakh from a bank branch located on the Waterworks road. “As I began walking, a Skoda car slowed down near the Civil Hospital and the occupants snatched my bag and drove away. I immediately alerted a traffic policeman, Nand Singh, who began following the car on his motorcycle,” Jag Singh said.

However, the snatchers’ car tyre burst on a busy road. Before they could flee again, Nand Singh caught them. People who gathered there thrashed the snatchers.

The SHO of the City 1 police station, Paramjit Singh, said a case under Section 392 of the IPC was registered against the duo.
