AAP leader Manish Sisodia to visit Punjab on Saturday

Date:

Chandigarh, May 1: Senior AAP leader and Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia will visit Punjab on Saturday and discuss with leaders ways to strengthen the Aam Aadmi Party in the state, a party leader said here on Monday.

Sisodia’s visit to Punjab will come more than a month after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tendered an apology to Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia for previously accusing him of being involved in drugs trade.

Kejriwal’s apology had pushed the AAP unit into a crisis after many state leaders expressed disappointment with the party national convener’s move. Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann resigned as Punjab chief and MLA Aman Arora quit as co-president.

“Sisodia ji will come to Mohali on May 5,” AAP Punjab unit co-president Balbir Singh said.

“He will meet state leader, MLAs, district and block presidents and give the party programme for next two months,” Singh said.

Sisodia, who is party’s Punjab affairs in-charge, is also expected to announce the AAP candidate for the by-poll to Shahkot assembly constituency scheduled on May 28 and inaugurate the party’s state office in Mohali.

Shahkot Vidhan Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of the incumbent MLA, Ajit Singh Kohar, a senior SAD leader.

“After Mohali, party has plans to open offices in all districts and then all 117 assembly segments,” he said.

“We have also plans to set up a social media team,” said Singh, who was appointed co-chief of Punjab unit last month.

Singh was also assigned the responsibility of forming the organisational structure in Punjab.
